Mabry began this recent chapter of his life studying the ney and Turkish music with Ishmail Hakki in Istanbul, While there he also studied ebru painting technique with Ayla Makas.

Aside from being an ebru painter, multi-instrumentalist (his first instrument was the oboe) and improvisor, Mabry is also a composer - see The Wandering Ney 2 - and a poet, photographer and scholar.
